Dishonored 2 Jindosh Lock: how the riddle is built and solved

The Jindosh Lock seals Aramis Stilton's Manor in Dust District. Its riddle, The Jindosh Riddle, describes five women at a dinner party. The lock opens when each woman's name is set beside her heirloom.

How the game writes your riddle

The note has 25 blanks, five for each woman: her name, the color she wears, her heirloom, her drink and the city she comes from. The lock's script shuffles each of those five word lists and fills every blank from them. The sentences around the blanks are the same for every player; only the words in the blanks change. A solution copied from another playthrough rarely opens your lock.

Which blanks belong to the same woman

A blank always describes the same woman, whatever word fills it. The script writes the first woman's five words into five fixed places in the note, the second woman's into five others, and so on. The place of a name in the note therefore tells you which heirloom place belongs to the same woman, and the solver needs only the words your copy shows. You do not have to work out the seating order.

The lock asks for two kinds of word: the guests' names and the heirlooms. The colors, drinks and cities serve players who solve the riddle by reasoning, so the solver leaves those blanks empty.

Why the order of the wheels does not matter

The lock has five pairs of wheels, each a name wheel and an heirloom wheel. A pair is correct when its name and heirloom belong to the same woman, and the lock opens once all five women are found, whichever pair shows each of them. Set the five pairs in any order.

Use the solver

  1. Read the riddle note at the lock in your game.
  2. For each name and heirloom in the note, pick the word your copy shows at the same place. The solver prints the sentences in the note's order.
  3. Once four names are set, the fifth follows; the same holds for heirlooms.
  4. Set the five pairs on the lock's wheels.

If you pick the same name or heirloom at two places, the solver marks both and leaves those women out of the answer. Compare those places with your note. Your choices stay in the page address and in this browser, so the link opens the same answer later or on another device.

Other ways to the answer

Vice Overseer Byrne and Paolo each carry the answer as a note, Solution to Jindosh's Lock. If you help neither side, the journal points to Durante, held at the Overseer Outpost, and to the Crone's Hand Saloon.
